Ask Your Building or Community Management Early

Contact management at both the property you are leaving and the property you are moving into. Ask specifically about move-in and move-out procedures rather than assuming the same rules apply at both locations.

• Is move-in or move-out approval required?
• Does security need advance notice?
• Is a service lift booking required?
• Are there restricted moving hours or days?
• Where can the moving truck park or load?
• Do movers need to provide company or vehicle details?

Prepare Any Requested Information

The exact paperwork depends on the property. Management may ask residents or tenants for information connected with the move, the moving company, the vehicle or the tenancy. Provide only what the relevant management team actually requests.

Reserve Service Lifts and Loading Areas

In high-rise buildings, lift availability can determine how quickly the move is completed. If a service lift or loading bay must be reserved, confirm the time before finalizing the moving schedule.

Also ask whether floor, wall or lift protection is required during the move and whether the building provides it or expects the moving team to bring suitable protection.

Confirm the Allowed Moving Window

Some properties restrict moving activity to certain hours. This matters because the moving company needs enough time for loading, travel and unloading within the permitted access window.

If the time window is narrow, tell the moving company when requesting the quote so labour and vehicle planning can account for it.

Check the Pickup and Destination Separately

A common mistake is confirming access only at the new property. The move can also be delayed at the pickup location if security, lift access or loading permission has not been arranged.

Keep the contact numbers for both security or management teams available on moving day.
